During this Japanese calligraphy T-shirt experience in Tokyo, you will write your own kanji and turn it into a personalized souvenir.
Duration: 60 minutes

This option is perfect for guests who would like to enjoy Japanese calligraphy and create a personalized item in a shorter amount of time.

2. Add a Printed Item to the Standard Calligraphy Experience

You can add a T-shirt or tote bag to Shodocafe7557’s standard Japanese calligraphy experience.

During the standard experience, you will learn how to hold the brush, practice basic brush techniques, and write your chosen kanji several times on Japanese calligraphy paper.

You can then select your favorite piece and have it digitized and printed onto a T-shirt or tote bag.

This option is recommended for guests who would like to enjoy a more complete calligraphy experience and create traditional artwork such as a hanging scroll, shikishi board, or folding fan, together with an original printed item.

How the Experience Works

1. Learn the Basics of Japanese Calligraphy

Our English-speaking staff will carefully guide you through how to hold the brush, apply the ink, and create basic Japanese calligraphy strokes.

No previous calligraphy experience is required, so beginners are welcome.

2. Choose the Kanji You Would Like to Write

You can choose your favorite kanji character.

Guests who would like to write their name can receive suggestions for meaningful Japanese kanji based on the pronunciation and image of their name.

3. Write Your Kanji on Japanese Calligraphy Paper

Using a brush and ink, you will write your chosen kanji several times on traditional Japanese calligraphy paper.

Even when writing the same kanji, the shape of the character, the strength of the brushstrokes, and the shades of ink will be different each time.

4. Select Your Favorite Piece

Choose your favorite piece from the calligraphy works you created.

This selected artwork will be printed onto your T-shirt or tote bag.

5. Choose a Traditional Japanese Design

You can choose a traditional Japanese design to combine with your handwritten calligraphy.

The 60-minute experience lasts approximately 60 minutes. The standard calligraphy experience lasts approximately 90–120 minutes.
Advance booking is recommended, as availability may vary depending on the date and group size.

Depending on the number of participants and the printing schedule, production may take up to two hours. If your item is not ready immediately after the experience, you can explore Roppongi and return later to collect it.
