Beginning with a Powerful Live Calligraphy Demonstration

The event began with a live performance by a professional Japanese calligrapher.

Participants watched the dynamic brush movements, different shades of Japanese ink, and the expressive beauty of traditional calligraphy from close range.

After learning about how to hold and move the brush, as well as the meanings behind different Kanji characters, the participants began their own calligraphy experience.

Practicing Basic Brushstrokes with the Kanji “永”

Before creating their individual works, all participants practiced the Kanji 「永」 (eternity). This character contains many of the basic brushstrokes used in Japanese calligraphy, making it ideal for learning fundamental techniques such as stopping, sweeping, and turning the brush. Our calligrapher and support staff provided guidance so that even complete beginners could practice with confidence.

PCreating One-of-a-Kind Hanging Scrolls

After practicing, each participant used their own handwritten Kanji to create an original hanging scroll.

Every finished scroll reflected the participant’s personality and thoughts. At the end of the workshop, everyone held their completed artwork for a team photo.

The hanging scrolls became meaningful, one-of-a-kind souvenirs of their time in Japan.

Kanji Calligraphy Body Art During the Break

During the break, participants could choose a favorite Kanji or Hiragana design for temporary calligraphy body art. Each character was carefully painted on the arm with expressive brushstrokes, offering a fun and memorable way to experience Japanese calligraphy.

We also offered a prize gacha machine featuring 30 different Kanji keychains. Participants who drew a winning capsule received an original hand-brushed artwork created by the calligrapher.

Personalized Hiragana Tote Bags for Every Participant

Each participant received an original tote bag featuring their name written in Hiragana.

These personalized bags offered international guests a fun and practical way to experience the Japanese writing system and became special keepsakes from the event.

Original Kanji T-Shirts Featuring the Company Logo

At the company’s special request, we created original T-shirts combining each participant’s handwritten Kanji with the company logo.

Every T-shirt featured the participant’s own calligraphy. Rather than using one standard design, each shirt was completely unique.

All 51 completed T-shirts were delivered to the group’s hotel the day after the calligraphy experience.
